A MESSAGE

FROM THE PRESIDENT

OF ST. MARK'S

CONSISTORY

OCTOBER

2025

Psalm 22:30 "Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord."

Next year St. Mark's will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary.  It makes me think about the members that have belonged to the church over the years.  Many of you can say my great grandfather or great-great grandmother was a member of the church.  Some, like me, are first generation at St. Mark's.

As a newer member of the church, it gives me a chance to see St. Mark's from a different perspective.  I came to this church because my brother-in-law was a student pastor here and spoke about the many great aspects of our church.  I stayed because I saw something special.  The people, the generosity, the history, the programs, the stories people tell about long ago.  St Mark's became my safe space.  A place I know I can can come to for guidance, to better my relationship with God, and camradery.

Churches come and go very easily.  Just like having a close family, a great job, or friends, you must work at it.  When I first started here 23 years ago, we had many committees, programs and activities for the children and the pews were more filled on a Sunday.  Like many churches, we no longer have the hustle and bustle it once had.  Unfortunately this is detrimental to both finding a new pastor as well as St. Mark's continuing to be a church in the community.

There are fewer pastors than there used to be.  We need to be an active and vibrant church to attract our next pastor.  It is time for us to step up and become active participants in the church again.  Say yes to helping with Sunday School, being on a committee, coming to church.  By being active in the Body of Christ you are strengthening your relationship with Christ and each other creating a thriving church that a pastor would fell called to be a part of.

I will end by saying...Where do you see your church going?  What are you willing to do now so YOUR church is here for your families'next generation?

Blessings from your Consistory President

Heather Stone
